I was part of a church and had a bad experience….

 

Maybe you are still recovering from it, and trying to make sense of it.

Or maybe you know someone who had a bad experience in a church and now they are soured against the church or anything religious.  Some call it being "church hurt."  What do you say to them?

Here is a very brief article that is helpful on not excusing unloving behavior in a church and also helping someone move beyond it.  As it say, “Christians admittedly aren’t perfect, but that’s no excuse for failing to demonstrate Christ’s love.”

On the other hand, sometimes people blame the church for things they shouldn’t.  For instance, I can’t actually blame a church for my not  growing spiritually.  That is each person’s responsibility.  The church didn’t “burn out” a person.  Again, that is on us.  Carey Nieuwhof lists 5 Things People Blame The Church For…But Shouldn’t.

This line from the Christmas carol, We Three Kings , often stumps modern listeners.  What does it mean? " Incense " (or frankincense ) was a costly substance that created a fragrant smoke when burned. As the verse indicates, in this case it symbolizes our prayers rising to God. The phrase, " a Deity nigh " refers to the Christ Child himself, who was "near" (nigh) from the perspective of the three Kings who had traveled to worship him and offer Him gifts.  Nigh is an old word for near .  And Deity means divine, or God. How to Photograph the Total Solar Eclipse The total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 is now in the books. I hope you got some amazing shots and even more importantly, were able to experience the totality. WEATHER UPDATE: As you probably know weather was a significant issue for most of the US path of the eclipse and even into Canada. Even areas with nearly clear skies had high clouds that prevented the sun's corona being photographed clearly. When you boost the exposure for the much dimmer corona you also get the clouds.  Unlike 2017, I haven't seen any of the massive corona shots where it extends out several diameters of the sun. If you have some, please let me know and post them somewhere. That being said, many photographers got some excellent shots of Bailey's Beads, the Diamond Ring and the sun's much brighter photosphere which is the bright rim closest to where the moon is covering the sun. Is Mark Virkler Right About Our Dreams Being God's Voice?

On his web site, Communion With God, in an article entitled "Principles of Christian Dream Interpretation," under a heading of "More Thoughts on Dreams" Mark Virkler claims, "Dreams are reliable messengers. They reveal the condition of one's heart (Dan. 2:30), as well as the voice of God within one's heart (Acts 2:17)" And he claims There are no warnings in the Bible to beware of your own dreams , with the possible exception of Ecclesiastes 5:3,7, which is probably best understood as a reference to "daydreams" since all other references in the Bible to "dreams" are positive .  But are dreams reliable?  Are they assuredly God's voice to you?  Is there only one warning and that about "daydreams"?  What does the Bible say?  Truth is, there are many direct warnings, at least 11, about dreams! 1.
