Keith Moore's Weak Biblical Arguments for "Claiming" Other People's Promises as Our Own

Moore's blatant misuse of Scriptural promises to justify his prosperity gospel teachings can be seen in an article he wrote to justify his teachings:

God’s Will to Heal
Keith Moore

“GOD SAID SO!  How do we know whether it’s God’s will to heal us or not? It makes little difference what others say about it. What did He say about it?
Remember that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10: 34) and He never changes (Mal. 3:6). So what He said to them yesterday, He is saying to you today.  God’s word is God speaking to me.”

Let’s just take these opening statements for starters.  He begins on firm ground, that it only matters ultimately what God says about healing, etc. But his Scriptural support is unfounded. The phrase, “God is no respecter of persons,” means God is impartial (specifically that the Gentiles were now accepted as equals to Jews), and not at all that anything God promised a certain individual in the Old Testament can now be “claimed” by someone else.

But in fact, not all promises of God in Scripture were universal, that is, meant for everyone in all ages and places.  Some were to specific to certain individuals for specific things, such as God’s promise to Abraham that Sarah would have a baby the next year, though nearly 90 years old.  God made many individual promises limited to a specific person in the Bible.  While we can learn from these examples, they remain examples, not transferable promises I can “claim” any more than I can claim someone else’s dry cleaning.

There are plenty of universal promises of God we can stand on.  But when Moore says to "claim" a promise in the Bible he believe it literally obligates God to do the same for you, even if in the case of individual promises God never intended for anyone but the person he gave it to on a given occasion.  So, by that logic, if I have terminal cancer and I read Genesis 15:15 I can take that promise given to Abraham of a long life as my own simply by "claiming" it.   And (this is the cruel part) if it doesn't work then it's all my fault for not having enough faith.  It's also very much a "Never mind God's will.  I want my will be done." approach to God.

Likewise the second phrase Moore cites, He “never changes” (Mal. 3:6) does not at all imply that a specific promise given to one person is automatically transferable to anyone else.  This simply is not logical.  That would indeed be “changing,” which is the very thing Moore agrees God cannot do!  For example, if I promise my neighbor Fred I will give him $50 tomorrow because he mowed my lawn last month, it in no way entitles my other neighbor, Jim, to $50.  That would be changing my promise.  And “God never changes” as Moore points out.

Take Moore’s third Scripture example which follows in his article:

“You shall be buried in a good old age (Gen. 15:15).”

Moore’s teaching is that this somehow applies to us as a direct promise of God.  Ripped out of it’s context perhaps it sounds like a universal promise.  But this again was a direct promise to Abraham about his own destiny.  Notice how out of place it looks when you read it in context, as God intended us to read it!  Abraham was complaining to God that he has no heir.  God answers:

13 Then the LORD said to him [Abraham], “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. 14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. 15 You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age. 16 In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”

Bad news for followers of Keith Moore:  part of the same promise to Abraham was that “your descendants will be slaves for 400 years!”   None of them are claiming that, and yet it is an integral part of Genesis 15:15. Note the word “however” buried in the middle.  That word points the reader back to God’s previous statement, regarding the enslavement of Abrahams’ ancestors.  While God might use this promise to reassure my heart—that He is watching over my destiny and can give me long life should He choose—it is not a literal promise or guarantee of long life to me. Just ask Jim.

Should the Fed Force Kosher Deli's to Offer Ham?

Reverend William E. Lori, the bishop of Bridgeport, Conn offered this parable to Congress to critique Obama's forcing religious institutions and/or their insurers to provide free contraceptives and abortion pills to it's female employees despite religious moral objections:

"It is absurd for someone to come into a kosher deli and demand a ham sandwich," Lori said. "But it is beyond absurd for that demand to be backed up with the coercive power of the state."

Obama's so-called "accommodation" is a mere fig leaf.   Using the parable above, it would be like the Federal government forcing the kosher deli's meat supplier to call up all the deli's employees and inform them that they can have free ham at the meat supplier's expense because Obama commands them to.

Obama: "I don't need a tax break" (cause I'm living free wtih TWO corporate jets at your expense)

Obama today said, "I don't need a tax break" while he lives totally free in five-star accomodations and jets around the world with not one but two corporate jets that outpace anything any CEO has in the world.  And he has two helicopters and a couple limos, not to mention his own gym, swimming pool, movie theater, bowling ally, and the list goes on and on.

No, Mr. Obama, you don't need a tax break because you aren't paying out anything to earn your income.

Obama's "Accomadtion" of Catholics on Abortion Requirements Just Semantics

Obama's statement of accommodation toward Catholic institutions today was just semantics.  It changes nothing.  It' a clever word trick.

The only reason those insurance companies will call an employee is because they is working for a Catholic institution:

"Hey, Ms. Jones!  I see you're working at Holy Cross Orphanage.  Just want to let you know when you want an abortion, morning after pills, birth control, or even some condoms to carry around because you are working for Holy Cross it's all on the house.  It's that a miracle, Ms. Jones?"
She asks, "Who is paying for it?"
"Well, we are."
"But don't you get your premium money from Holy Cross?"
Answer, "Uh, well, yes!"

Democrats The Real Party of "No" - to Everything in Your Life Except Two Things

Obama Laments He Has "Not Been Able to Force Congress" and Blames Founding Fathers

Today the Dictator in Chief continued to shift blame, and lamented to Matt Lauer,

"I have not been able to FORCE Congress to implement every aspect of what I said in 2008.  Well, it turns out that our Founders designed a system that makes it more difficult to bring about change than I would like sometimes."

That pesky Constitution.  Imagine the gall of Madison, Washington, Franklin and the gang--not allowing the President to rule on high and just simply "force" congress to do his will like King George.

Imagine the gall they had to have the House of Representatives elected every two years, so they could represent the People, and stop a run away President, as happened in the 2010 elections.

Susan G Komen Backs the "Ultimate Cure" for Breast Cancer - Abortion

Face it, no aborted female baby ever got breast cancer.  Brilliant.

Susan G. Komen bows to pressure from abortion proponents at Planned Parenthood and decides to fund them even though it violates their own policy on organizations under investigation.

2.5 Million Fewer Jobs in January 2012 from December 2011

Despite Obama's claim that joblessness is falling, looking at the non-seasonal jobless numbers there is a drop of 2.5 million jobs.

Nothing fort the Republican congress to slow down, Obama!

Obama Mixes Church and State With Congregation Captains, Violates IRS Restrictions

Quoted From Obama's Web site enlisting churches,

"By Mark C. on February 1, 2012

As African Americans for Obama launches, check out new ways you can take ownership of this campaign. Re-electing President Obama and protecting the changes we've made since 2008 will take a community-wide effort. Look at the programs below and figure out where you fit in. After that, visit our volunteer sign-up page and make it official that you're committed to African Americans for Obama.

Congregation Captain Program
Congregation captains will take the lead on educating congregations about the importance of participating in this campaign and how to get involved. You?ll reach out to key church members and mobilize your personal networks with house parties and other outreach activities, as well as provide assistance in conducting voter registration drives."

From Obama's own campaign Web site
February 1, 2012

http://www.barackobama.com/news/entry/a-community-wide-effort-programs-to-get-involved

This is illegal activity for a non-profit tax exempt organization such as a church.ˇ The Web notice specifically says to get church congregations "participating in this campaign" which is expressly forbidden by IRS regulations.ˇ Churches may not campaign for a candidate, or use resources substantially to do so.

Here is the current IRS rules on churches campaigning or faking an "educational" voter campaign that shows evident bias for one candidate:

The Restriction of Political Campaign Intervention by Section 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Organizations

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity.ˇ Violating this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.ˇ

Certain activities or expenditures may not be prohibited depending on the facts and circumstances.ˇ For example, certain voter education activities (including presenting public forums and publishing voter education guides) conducted in a non-partisan manner do not constitute prohibited political campaign activity. In addition, other activities intended to encourage people to participate in the electoral process, such as voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, would not be prohibited political campaign activity if conducted in a non-partisan manner.

On the other hand, voter education or registration activities with evidence of bias that (a) would favor one candidate over another; (b) oppose a candidate in some manner; or (c) have the effect of favoring a candidate or group of candidates, will constitute prohibited participation or intervention.
The Internal Revenue Service provides resources ˇto exempt organizations and the public to help them understand the prohibition.ˇ As part of its examination program, the IRS also monitors whether organizations are complyingˇwith the prohibition.

Obama Organizing Church "Congregational Captains" mixing Religion and Politics, Enlisting Imams

Obama and the left are against Christian beliefs but quick to mix "church and state" when, as quoted below, it suits "our best interest."

Obama has just renewed the call for 2012, as he did in 2010--enlisting Muslims as a major part of his plan. Below is an Imam responding to the NC call for liberals to organize their church with "congregational captains" to go out to the polls and vote for Obama and democrats in congress.

One wonders where the IRS and the "separation of church and state" people are...

Oct. 2, 2010 post on "Imams' Consultative Body of NC"

As Salaam Alaikum,
You may have already received this, but I am sharing it just in case you have
not. Below are the details about the upcoming call for all NC Faith Based
leaders. We need to make sure as many faith-based organizational members are on
the call as possible. The goal is to have a wave of congregational captains
emerge who will take ownership of getting commitments and people to the polls to
vote. If you voted for President Obama and are supportive of his agenda, then
you already know what's at stake. Please help everyone by circulating the
meeting information to as many congregational leaders/members as you know and
let's win in November.

Peace and Blessings Always,
Rasheedah

questions, feel free to contact me.
Greetings,

The 2010 midterm elections will be the most important elections this decade for
North Carolina and we need your help.

On September 18th, President Barack Obama said "The last election was about
changing the guard. Now it's time to guard that change". All over North
Carolina, President Obama's grassroots organization, Organizing for America is
reaching out to leaders in the faith community just like you to communicate the
importance of voting in this year's midterm elections.

In November, we must protect the Democratic majority in Congress to ensure
President Obama can continue to push his agenda for change. We also need to
protect the Democratic majority in the North Carolina General Assembly to ensure
the redistricting process in 2011 is done fairly and in our best interest.
Lastly, we have an opportunity to choose our next U.S. Senator from North
Carolina.

Therefore, we would like to invite you to join our North Carolina Faith Based
Outreach Call on Monday, October 4th at 7pm. This will be an opportunity to hear
about the work that we are doing here in North Carolina and how you can get
involved to get out the vote in your faith community. Special guests will
include Steve Walker, Organizing for America's National African American
Outreach Director and Yohannes Abraham, Organizing for America's Political
Director.

We are going to be doing some exciting things over the next couple of weeks, but
we need your help. Together, we will ensure North Carolinians turn out to vote
in record number for a midterm election and we can continue to move North
Carolina forward.

Please register for the call by clicking here:

We look forward to speaking with you and we thank you for your continued support
and commitment to the future of North Carolina.

Obama Plays the Race Card In Despare Bid for Voters

Obama, a phony African American who shares no heritage with American blacks, came out today playing the race card to try to bolster his voter base.  But imagine if these racially charged words by Obama had been said by a white candidate for President?  First, Obama's words,

"Today, we’re announcing the 2012 launch of African Americans for Obama.
There’s no better time than African American History Month to consider the tremendous progress we’ve made through the sacrifice of so many—or a better time to commit to meeting the very real challenges we face right now.
Visit africanamericans.barackobama.com for more information about all the ways you can get involved—from attending HBCU organizing workshops to becoming a Congregation Captain—and say you’re ready to keep making history. Thanks, and see you out there."

Now let's change the race to white, and Mitt Romney speaking,

"Today, we’re announcing the 2012 launch of White Americans for Romney.
There’s no better time than White History Month to consider the tremendous progress we’ve made through the sacrifice of so many—or a better time to commit to meeting the very real challenges we face right now.
Visit whiteamericansformittromney.com for more information about all the ways you can get involved—from attending HWCU organizing workshops to becoming a Congregation Captain—and say you’re ready to keep making history. Thanks, and see you out there."

Congregation Captains?  Enlisting black churches for politics.  Hey IRS, you getting this?

Obama Not Really African American

What history does Obama share with African Americans?  Nothing!  His father was an east African (not west African where the majority of American slaves came from) Nigerian citizen who was only in America a few years as a student.  His mother is white.  He was raised in Hawaii by his white grandparents and Indonesia by his white mother.  Then he went from a prep school n Hawaii to Yale on scholarship.

But he goes on the stump creating the phony "African Americans for Obama."  He drones on about how we all had "generations" of oppression (from whitey is the implication).  Come on people!  He's not only half white, raised as a white, his ancestors were not slaves.  He shares nothing with American blacks, not the struggle, not the ethnic heritage, not the culture.
